The lexical variants presented in the note below are arranged according to their frequency of occurrence in the survey data-from most frequent to least frequent. Numerous lexical variants were reported throughout Maharashtra for the concept of male ego’s brother's son. The word putnya was widely reported for male ego’s brother’s son. Phonetic variation of this word includes putṇya, putno, putnyo, putṇyo, putṇo, putṇa, putna, etc. Likewise, the words used to introduce one's own son were also reported for this particular relation too. Hence, lek, mulɡa, porɡa, beṭa, ḍikra, sohəra, poyra were elicited. The word mulɡa was reported infrequently in Maharashtra to refer to ‘male ego’s brother’s son’. ḍikra was reported in Jalgaon, Dhule, Nashik, and Nandurbar districts. The word lyok was recorded for male egos brother’s son. lek, lekus, lekru, etc. were the phonetic variations reported for this word. It was noted in the tribal communities of Palghar, Raigad, Pune, Nashik, and Wardha districts as well as in the Lingayat, Mahar, Matang, and Buddhist communities of Kolhapur Solapur, Osmanabad, and Latur districts. porɡa was reported in various districts such as Palghar, Nashik, Nandurbar, Raigad, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli for the concept of the male ego's brother's son. Further, this word was also recorded in the Rajput community of Jalgaon district, and in the Banjara community of Nanded district. The word bʰətiǰa was reported in the Muslim community of Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Beed, Aurangabad, and Nanded districts. And Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Aurangabad districts mainly reported in the Chambhar community. Further, the word was elicited sporadically in the Rajput and Bhamta communities of Aurangabad district; the Pawara community of Jalgaon district; the Banjara community of Yavatmal district; Gawali, Balai, Korku, and Bhavsar communities of Amravati districts; Kirad and Gond communities of Nagpur district; Gond community of Bhanadara district; Binjwar community of Gondia district and in the Kawar community of Gadchiroli district. poyra was reported in the tribal communities of Palghar and Nandurbar districts. Phonetic variations of this word include poyrə, poyra, poyro, poriyo, etc. sohəra was noted in the Katkari community of Raigad for the concept male ego’s brother’s son. The word beṭa was reported in the Muslim community of Sindhudurg district for this concept. The word poša was elicited in the Kokna and Koli communities of Palghar district. Phonetic variations of this word include poša, pose, posæ, etc. bʰaneǰ was reported for the concept of male ego’s brother’s son in the Kumbhar, Warli, and Ubla communities of Palghar district.
