‘Bolt’ (kəḍi in the standard dialect of Marathi) is a device that is used to shut the door in a modern house. For this concept, the words kədi, kəḍikoyəṇḍa are commonly used throughout Maharashtra. The following words were reported as its variants in various geographical locations: kəḍi, koḍi, kəri, kəḷi, kərči, kəḍči kəḍikoyəṇḍa, kəḍikoṇḍa, kəḍikonḍka, kʷəyəṇḍa, koyənḍa, koṇḍa, koṇḍo, koṇḍe, koṇḍka, koenḍa, kəḍokoṇḍo, kʰoṇḍya, kəwəḍ koṇḍa, sakʰəḷ,sakəḷi sakʰ(ə)ḷi, səṅkəl, səṅkəli, sakʰri, sakri, sakḍi, sakəyi, sakḷikoṇḍa, sakərkoṇḍa, kulaba, kulabi, kulapa, kulup, koṇḍi,kuṇḍi, ɡuṇḍi, aḍna,aḍṇi, aḍki, aḍeɡəḷi, aḍkana, aḍno, aḍʰo, aḍnin, aḍəw, aḍčI, haṇḍrp, hænḍəl, iṅɡəl, iṅəl, hæṅɡəl,drəp, daṇdu, kili, kʰili, kʰiḷi, kʰiḷ,kʰilli, kʰiṭi, kəbǰi, kabǰa, səṭəkni, ṭucukni, ṭicukni, ṭicəkni, bijaɡri, bijaɡḍi, biǰakri, ṭapra, kilip, səḍa, cawi, huk, šəṭəl, iñǰis, ɡujər, lak, lɔk, etc.

It was also observed that the concept ‘bolt’ occasionally is referred to by the names of objects which constitute the bolt. For example, sakʰəḷi ‘chain’, kʰiḷi ‘a kind of bolt’, huk ‘hook’. Borrowings from English such as lɔk, hænḍəl, iñǰis too were noted to refer to the ‘bolt used for modern type of doors.’
